3D PRINTER: Why Printing on Glass Surface is Good

There are many different 3D printing platforms on the market, including metal, lacquered surface, glass and so on. But for most 3D printers, the glass surface is the most suitable printing platform.

Below are the reasons answering “Why use glass platform for 3D printing?”

Reason 1, 3D printer glass bed can maintain flatness

when your 3D printer loads layer by layer to form an object, the distance between the extruder and the printing platform remains the same may help a lot, for example, if you want to print a cube, and the platform is not flat, the center and the edge of this cube is not at the same plane, this will lead to additional force of each layer and the quality of the finished product will be different, and eventually you will get a very imperfect finished product.

If you are still not knowing what to do to clean the non-glass surface platform, such as the insulating material bed, or the metal bed, you may need to think about a glass plane, the cleaning time of the glass bed only takes about 30 seconds, and adding a layer of adhesive material takes a few more seconds. Dust, clogging materials and stray wire residues are very easy to see on the glass surface, the total cleaning time will take less than 1 minute, and it is not even necessary between two prints.

Reason 3: The 3D printer glass bed makes the surface of the printed object smooth and shiny

Most of the printed objects with extremely high gloss and verticality that you have seen are printed on glass bed. Moreover, when the print is removed from the hot bed, it is easier to separate than the plane of other materials.

Reason 4: 3D printer glass bed has good adhesion

The 3D printer with a hot bed is another key factor for printing on the glass plane. Although the glass bed can be used on an unheated printer, the adhesion is certainly not so good. Even glass is often heated to high temperatures, but it rarely needs to be replaced because it hardly wears out and can be 3D printed for a long time without replacement. What you can buy in the market is generally the standard hotbed glass with thickness of 3-4 mm. This thickness is good enough to maintain strength and heat dissipation.

The glass bed is the most worthy upgrade of the 3D printer. According to the size of the printer bed, the price of a high-quality borosilicate glass bed is about 20 dollars.
