More New design and manufacturing techniques coming into our life

The development of 3D printing technology has been making benefit to our life increasingly. To increase the benefits of 3D printing, a lot of new 3D printing material research has been made. All this research is so promising, you might question, why is it so important to create new 3D printing materials.

Nowaday, new industries, companies, and sectors have realized that additive manufacturing can improve their manufacturing process significantly, it is for sure that developing new 3D printing materials with new properties will help 3D printing technology develop to its full capacity. your projects could soon be 3D printed with wood, for example, with some better print quality! Wood 3D printers could be a reality sooner than expected.

Our topic today is one of the hot 3D printing materials — wood filament.

Actually, wood filament is still PLA-based, but integrated with wooden fibers, there are lots different natural materials like birch, bamboo, timber, cedar, coconut and many others. Normally, wood filaments contain 70% PLA and 30% wooden fibers.

Although the proportion of wood seems to be very small, you will be impressed with how wood-like the final print is. The advantage is its greater flexibility, but with today’s wood fiber filaments, 3D printed objects look, feel, and smell just like carved wood, so it is safe to sand the parts and apply different paints and coatings. The presence of these particles gives the 3D printed parts the aesthetics of real wood.

Sounds great, right? New design and manufacturing techniques and even finishing techniques are making the technology go further every day. 3D printing technology brings infinite possibilities.
