Recently, two students from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts designed and produced a series of customizable 3D printed shoes. The shoes are made of eco-friendly materials and can be customized according to the wearer's requirements. Finally, prototypes and 3D printing are performed using the Multitool 3D printer from ZMorph, a 3D printer manufacturer in Poland.

There is no doubt that the fashion and retail industry is one of the most wasteful manufacturing industries on the planet. It is not only the production of clothing and footwear, but also the actual waste of each product and the consumption of valuable resources such as water resources. It is said that the footwear industry needs about 25,000 liters of water to make a pair of shoes.

However, as technology advances, 3D printing has begun to provide viable alternatives to mass-produced shoes. Well-known companies such as Nike, Adidas and Under Armour are all exploring their potential. Designers Zuzanna Gronowicz and Barbara Motylinska are studying how to use 3D printing for manufacturing custom eco-friendly footwear.

Although student-designed 3D printed shoes may not meet everyone's taste, they still have a bright spot because they combine sustainable manufacturing, materials, and full functionality. It is worth mentioning that designers have developed their own unique shoemaking methods. Shoes include printed shoe parts printed directly on wool and cotton. This technology enables them to make flexible, breathable shoes that can be assembled without glue or extra sewing.

It is lightweight and flexible and can be printed in 3D with almost no support. This means that the sole can use a small amount of material for 3D printing.

To make shoes, Gronowicz and Motylinska use the ZMorph Multitool 3D printer's standard plastic extruder and Dual Pro tool head. According to the designer, single-material extruders are mainly used to print parts with flexible functions, while twin-screw extruders are used to print the components of soluble PVA carriers and have color-graded portions.

Although the shoes are not yet ready to enter the market, the designer has already launched the 3D printed shoe application, allowing the user to enter the foot size and select the color scheme and style, or choose to order shoes directly.
