The future research direction is the long-term repair of cartilage, so that people can resume their work and movement faster and they have no long-term influence of inflamed joints. This research is inspired by a CSIRO study on proteoglycan levels in cartilage of many different species for more than ten years. Crocodiles topped the list because their joints are very large, so it takes a lot of cartilage to maintain this movement. Cartilage around crocodile ribs is the most valuable part for researchers because it is especially rich in proteoglycan.
